D & R Sportsmanship
Charlie Batch was the first professional athlete to promote the D&R Sportsmanship Program encouraging teams, students, families, and friends to participate in pre-game dignity and respect activities intended to set the tone for game day.
During the 2016 WPIAL Football Season, in partnership with Xfinity High School Football Game of the Week, Dignity & Respect Champions were nominated by their Coach and Athletic Director for leadership on and off the field.
In greater Pittsburgh, Charlie Batch and the Best of the Batch Foundation are involved in all program activities including:
- meeting individually with each team, athletic director, coaches, and students prior to game day
- supporting pre-game pep rallies, often sponsored by Panera Bread
- coordinating joint pre-game activities between rival teams on game days
- encouraging game attendees to take the D&R pledge before the sporting event begins, and to behave respectfully, especially toward rival teams
