Champs Sports Network Announces

4th Annual Best of the Batch All-WPIAL Football Team

PITTSBURGH – Since 2012 former Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch and his Best of the Batch Foundation have teamed up with Champs Sports Network to recognize standout athletes to watch in the upcoming WPIAL football season.

The players, primarily seniors, have been highly successful prior to entering the 2015 season both on the field and in the classroom. This year’s team is made up of 26 players from 22 school districts and all four classifications in the WPIAL being represented.

Over the past three seasons 80 players have been honored through the program, and the players that have already graduated have moved on to play athletics at the collegiate level.  “That’s what is most important.” Batch Foundation President Charlie Batch said.

“On the field achievements are great but they need to be partnered with education, because eventually playing the game is taken away from you and you need to know what comes after football.” Batch said.

The players will be honored at Heinz Field on Sunday August 23rd before kickoff of the Pittsburgh Steelers preseason game against the Green Bay Packers at 1pm.

“We are so grateful to the Steelers for helping us acknowledge these student-athletes at Heinz Field, not to mention at the same venue that will have the opportunity to play on this year in the WPIAL Championship games. It’s really special for them.” Champs Sports Network President Matt Farago said.

Below is the complete roster for the 2015 Champs “Best of the Batch” All-WPIAL Preseason team; you can follow the players and their teams all season long on the Champs Sports Network.
